I purchased two Playfence retractable baby gates to use as containment gates for my 2 Golden Retrievers.  I use my retractable gates daily and have had no problems with any mechanical component and find them very user friendly. Thank you again for selling a quality product.

We absolutely love our Retractable baby gate. We use it at the bottom of our stairs in order to prevent our 21-month old son and our dog from heading upstairs when we are not looking. Rudi and Frankie are two good-sized Labarador Retrievers. The Playfence is the only gate we found that would bridge the gap at the bottom of our staircase and keep them from romping after the cats upstairs. And when they somehow managed to break the carrier bar, Playfence quickly replaced it. It is a great product from a great company.

I am very happy with my Retractable Anywhere Baby Gates. I currently have two installed in my home: one at the top of the stairs to the second floor and one at the bottom. Our staircase wraps around to a sunken living room, and I've installed an extra bracket there as well. I've been saving the fourth bracket just in case, and it turns out I will need it to block off the kitchen.  I am glad I can purchase only the extra brackets I need and then move the gates around easily, instead of having to buy yet another gate.  My son Phineas is 11 months old and he's really beginning to crawl fast. Everywhere I look I see possible dangers for him. I will shortly be purchasing another set of brackets for the doorway to my son's bedroom. We also have a dog (a boxer/retriever mix), and I have occasionally used a gate to block her access to the baby's room (she would awaken him by going in to check on him!) I'm sure that once my son is grown, I'll be using the gates to train a new puppy.

The gate installation looked complicated before I started, and I called your customer service department for clarification. They were very helpful, and after installing the first bracket, I saw how easy it was. I had no trouble doing the entire installation myself.  Thank you for putting my mind at ease about my son's safety.

We are in the process of moving from NY to FL and our new playfence has become a perfect safety piece "when necessary" in our new home.  I have a 3 and 1 year old and 3 huge dogs (2 German Shepherd and 1 Bernese Mountain dog who weighs 160lbs) . I opted for the play fence and extra bracket set over 2 permanent gates at the top and bottom of our stairs. The dogs can not go up, the kids can not get down. If we have visitors I can choose if I leave the gates across or not which is great.  I also can hold onto these gates when I no longer need them for my children, should younger family members visit.  My only wish is that they could make a playfence 14 foot wide for my kitchen/living room opening which I wanted to avoid building a wall or putting up a permanent iron fence!! The gate works for my application, which is 2 large dogs, a big black one and a bad dog, and 2 pesky cats.  The cats try to climb under the gate which is only installed temporarily as our finish flooring is yet to be installed.   I am not sure where I saw or heard this but somewhere a woman says rewinding the fence is really easy and she can do it with 1 finger.  The gate is much, much more difficult to wind up than that, although it is smooth.  It just doesn't turn easily enough to turn with one finger.  Thank you,  Bill H.

Instructions Regarding Rewinding: To Rewind With One Hand: There is a very easy way to use the turning knob to open and close the gate.  Once you are ready to rewind the gate back into the housing we suggest that you place the top stud from the carrier bar (the bar that pulls the mesh across the opening) into the top keyhole slot in the housing (the long rectangular box that holds the mesh).   You can then rewind the gate with one hand, and even with one finger, by positioning your finger (point your index finger downward) in one of the grooves in the turning knob and circle counterclockwise. You should be able to rewind the gate in seconds.  If this explanation is difficult to understand because it is written, please do not hesitate to contact our business office at 800-242-8190 and we are happy to walk you through the process.

I currently use my Playfence pet gate to block a room that the dogs aren't allowed to enter.  I also use the second set of wall brackets at the bottom of the stairs to keep my girls downstairs when I am away from home.  I am very satisfied with my gate and would recommend it to anyone.  My favorite part about the gate is the aesthetics.

We love our new Playfence gate. It is now safe for our daughter to run around without the worry of our stairs. We purchased one gate and two brackets and use them for the top of the stairs and the bottom of the stairs. We are even considering more brackets for our office and her bedroom. It is nice to have one gate and be able to move it easily (one-hand). The customer service department was great when we called with a small issue. We use our gate to keep our lovely but lively dogs out of the kitchen when we are in there, and in the kitchen when we are not home. It is a great gate and the best part is - very attractive. We have had other brown child wood gates that are cumbersome to open and close, easy to trip over in the night (very noisy when you land). I frequently only have one hand to manipulate the gate with. Closing (the Playfence gate) with one hand is easy . . .I love the gate.

I purchased the Playfence Retractable ANYWHERE BABY GATE before my daughter was born. I have 2 older dogs that had never been around any children. I knew that I would need a fence that would keep her hands from going through to the dogs until they became familiar with each other. Once I got the gate installed, I thought it was so wonderful that we ordered 2 more. They blend in to the wall, so you can't even tell they are there. They are easy to clean and very easy to use. We have been using this gate for about 6 months to keep both our toddler and our dog in the family room. So far we have had no problems. We like that the gate rolls up out of sight when not in use. When I was looking for a retractable gate I did some research, I liked the PLAYFENCE best because it has a lock on it in order to hold the mesh in place. The whole thing is white, it is made for indoors and outdoors and you don't have to buy a gate for each door. I have 4 places where I need a gate. One is at the bottom of my stairs, one is at the top of a different set of stairs, one is on my dining room, and the last one is on my deck. If I bought a competitor, I would need 4 separate gates. With Playfence I only need 2 because I can put up the additional thin white brackets at each doorway and move my gates easily to where I want them to be inside or outside. It does not retract like a window shade, so it will not snap back and hurt anyone. I really enjoy having them!

The Playfence is great. I use it for both my baby and dog. It protects them from a large staircase as we are on a second floor apartment. I had one of those expensive steel gates, but the cheap plastic hinges broke, plus that gate was difficult to install. Your mesh gate leaves much flexibility for installing in unusual situations such as mine. Dan K.

I love our retractable baby gate! I bought one gate and two extra sets of mounting brackets - one for the top and one for the bottom of the stairs at my house, and one for the stairway at my mother's house. We put off getting the Retractable Anywhere Baby Gate because of the price, but finally bought it, rather than other, less expensive, gates simply because we had a narrow stairway that led to a narrow hallway at the top of the stairs. There simply wasn't any room for a swing gate and the expanding wooden lattice gates weren't strong enough to secure the top of the stairs (never mind that an expanding gate just begs to pinch baby fingers!) As soon as I got my gate out of the box I knew my money had been well spent. It was much heavier and of sturdier construction than I had anticipated. It was very easy to install. And even though I can open, close, or move it as needed with only one hand, it still latches firmly enough that I KNOW my kids aren't going to lean on it and cause it to spontaneously open. That it is so portable is just the icing on the cake. Now, if your company would just make car seats that is as well made, effective and easy to install... I have been very pleased with your gate. I love its portability. It saved us having to spend another $100.00+ to buy another gate. I just move the gate from the bottom to the top of the stairs depending on where we are with our baby. It was also difficult to find a gate to fit the large stairwell in our foyer. Dear Playfence, I ordered two gates. I just installed them last weekend and I will also order one more. I am starting a daycare and the gate is great. They are longer than most gates. The mesh can be easily wiped clean. They are taller than standard gates for longer use (so they can be used for a longer period of time with the child). They also are out of the way when they are not in use. I also like the portability and the fact that the gate can be moved from wall to wall with installed brackets. The pictures that you show on your web site all have gates mounted to solid wood doorways or openings. They are not mounted to drywall, so I had to go buy some 1/4 inch by 34-inch wood strips to place behind the brackets to act as shims. This was an alternative option for walls with baseboards, so I was able to have the gates level to the wall and flush with the floor. It turned out great. Thank you, Charity, CA

We installed the first of the two Playfence retractable gates we purchased from you last night. My husband, who is very into the mechanics of things was extremely happy with the construction of the item and said it was far better than the other retractable gate we had in the past. I like the fact that it is so easy to use and you don't have to retract it every time. I can run into the kitchen, grab an item and then hook the gate on the way back out without having to pull it out of the housing again. The gate is serving a two-fold purpose. The kitchen gate keeps the dog in the kitchen and the kids out, both for co-mingling reasons and the fact that I don't want to have to look out for little ones while I'm cooking. The gate upstairs will be used to keep kids in the play area without allowing them access to our stairs, and we purchased extra hardware so we can take that same gate downstairs where the kids are, and put it in the hallway leading to the back door (my 3 year olds favorite exit) and basement stairs (my 13 month olds favorite activity). Hello, I would like to say how pleased I am with the retractable gate. I am using it for my 15- month old daughter. It has been placed across double French doors leading to the garden so I can have the door open on hot days (not that we get many hot ones here in England!), and know she is safe playing in the kitchen whilst I cook, wash ETC. We love our playfence gate! It keeps the dogs out and the baby in. We have it attached in a small hallway and purchased a 2nd set of wall brackets so that it can fence off the hallway or just the baby's doorway, just by moving it from one set of brackets to the other. We only needed to buy one gate and it is much easier than a standard gate and it practically disappears when we're not using it! I was so excited when I found this gate on the internet because I wanted to block off the two entrances into my kitchen. One entrance is 44 " wide and the other is 31" wide. I could not find a gate that could be expanded to fit the larger opening but still shrink down enough to fit the small opening so they could match. Also, both areas have pretty high traffic, so the retractable gate seemed perfect! I ordered two gates and an extra set of brackets to move one of the gates upstairs, if needed. I decided to put up one of the gates in the larger opening to my kitchen. It actually works perfectly!! I love that it retracts out of the way for when we have guests over and when our son is asleep (I just use it for my child). And it is so convenient the way the whole unit just pops off the wall bracket if I need to get the w hole gate out of the way. (we need to remove it if we want to open our basement door all the way). I will be using my other gate in the entrance to our future playroom (we'll just build the walls to suit the gate) and I will mount the other brackets on our deck when we get that finished since it will have stairs. This is a great gate. I love the way you can lock the gate in place once it is extended. My son likes to stand at the gate and push his body into it - but he can't climb over!!
